Merry Christmas!

The Ladybugs wish you a Merry Christmas!

Snowflake Breakfast

Food, friends and music were the order of the day during our annual Snowflake Breakfast.  The Ladybugs hosted the rest of the school for a breakfast of pancakes, bacon and fruit.  Mrs. Blackwood led in some seasonal singing after breakfast.  It was a good time and thanks to our many parent volunteers who made it all possible!

Pizza!

Our latest business venture was a pizzeria,
We had a menu and order pads, a delivery service and red and white checked tablecloths,
We made real pizza,
and ate it for snack!

These kids are researching what happens when you heat polymers.

We had a full house on Friday!  The Narwhals, Peacocks and Bumblebees joined us for some mixed age work.  They read to us, we read to them, we played together and did some research together.  You might think that a room full of 4-10 year olds would be chaotic, just the opposite is true.  It's amazing to watch these children work together in ways that values what each child brings to the group.  The give and take, genuine affection and teamwork in the classroom makes it a pleasure to all be together!

First Friday in December

Learning about greater than and less than.

We love it when the big kids come to play!  First Friday is a fun day for the whole school!

Owls

Friends working together to build a masterpiece!
A little engineering with the blocks.
It's all about owls this week.
It was a very rainy day when we went to Seattle Children's Theater!
How many ways can you make 10?

We got a little help from our Peacock friends writing stories.

They even worked on some math with us.

We've been learning about owls.

We graphed different kinds of owls.
It's math and science . . .
. . .in a way that the children find interesting and challenging.
This has been a terrific couple of weeks in the Ladybugs.  We've been to a play, had a party and had the big kids in our room to help us.  The children have been totally engaged in learning about owls and representing this learning in different ways.  We have used art, math, the smart board and children's literature to learn new things about owls.  STEM is alive and well and informing learning in the Ladybugs!  Next up. . . spiders!
