Thanksgiving at Seabury

We painted gratitude cards,

made treats for the feast,

drew our families,

made a wreath with all of the things we were thankful for,

dictated our gratitude cards,

finally, we enjoyed our feast with the rest of the school!

This year during our discussions of Thanksgiving, we focused on the concept of gratitude.  We talked about all of the things we were thankful for and found a few new ways to express them.  One of the things we know about these bright and talented learners is that they tend to be very emphatic and compassionate.  Next month, Seabury will be collecting grooming supplies, socks and mittens to share with kids in need.  This is one way for the kids to express their compassion in a tangible way.

Fire Station!

It was our turn to sing at gathering, a perfect opportunity for a turkey song!
Time for mentoring!  This week's goal was the completion of a turkey craft by both members of the team.

It's harder than you might think,

each team interpreted the directions in the way they thought best.   We ended up with  24 unique turkeys!
Many thanks to the Browns Point Fire Station for a fantastic field trip.  We learned about being safe in case of a fire.  We checked out all the  equipment, tried on the safety gear and climbed on the fire truck. It's been a good week!

International Dot Day, part 2

What do we love about 1st Fridays?

all ages working side by side,

the pleasure of doing something different,

everybody creating in their own way,

collaboration,

even the grown ups like it,

and everybody helps with the clean up.
Our classroom is used for working on the dot mural on 1st Fridays.  We turn up the music and give everybody a paint brush with the instruction to paint dots any way they want.  We end up with the most amazing murals!  This is the second group of children creating a mural.  By the time our 1st Friday rotation is over, 5 different groups of kids will have painted dots and circles.  (they are on display in the lunch room)  "The Dot" by Peter Reynold is an engaging story about gaining confidence to create art  and celebrating those creations.  It is the perfect vehicle for promoting a growth mind set.  Feel like creating with us?  Join us on the 1st Friday of next month!

While 15 of our Seabury friends were in our room, the rest of the school was busy cooking, building, paper crafting and reading.  Makes for a fun morning at Seabury.
