Science and Math in the Ladybugs

It's been a big week for science and math in the Ladybugs.  At the beginning of the week we had pumpkin math with the big kids.  We weighed and measured the pumpkins, counted the lines on the pumpkin, estimated the number of seeds and then counted the seeds by 5's and 10's.  We even carved the pumpkins.  Then we had sunflowers that needed pulled apart and the seeds went outside for the birds.  Finally, on Friday, we did a lesson on symmetry with the big kids.

Pumpkin Patch

The annual visit to the Pumpkin Patch is an exciting adventure for the pre-k class.

There were goats to feed.
Pumpkins to gather.

A hayride around the farm.

Celery to sample.
We learned new facts about how apple trees grow.
There were chickens to feed.

Chicken feathers to check out.

Apples to pick.

The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day to visit the farm.  We learned about more than pumpkins,  there were apples, celery, chickens, raspberries and goats to investigate.  Farmer Mark did a terrific job of teaching all kinds of interesting things.

Slime Monsters!

Give the kids some colored slime, 125 googly eyes and some foam pieces and you get monsters of all kinds!  Plenty of opportunities for imaginative play, fine motor work and fun.  When the kids were finished, they named their monsters and dictated stories about them so we could make a monster book.  It's sure to be on the best seller list!

Checking out the school bus

In preparation for our first field trip, we checked out the school bus.  The kids were so excited!  Our trip around the block was almost as good as a trip to Disneyland.  We can't wait for the real trip on Thursday!
