Bike Day

Looks like a simple game of "Go Fish".   It's much more than that.  It's waiting your turn, listening to your friends, sorting and classifying your cards, and number recognition.  Not bad for a simple game of cards.

Taking apart the fax machine: working together and using fine motor skills.

We're using the project approach to learn more about our community.  The above 5 pictures show different aspects of the project approach to learning.  The kids are using different mediums to represent what they have observed about the community around our school.

Bike day!  It doesn't get more fun than this!

Bike day was a fun way to explore our topic of "Motion".   The kids just zoomed around the playground!  We had surprisingly few crashes during our morning of fun.  The children that started out the morning very tentative were confidently cruising around the playground by lunch time.  After some time outside, we came into the classroom and graphed data about our bikes and helmets.  First, we created a picture graph and then we took that information and represented it in a pie graph.

Fun and learning!  A winning combination!
