Plants and Butterflies
We're finishing up some of our class projects as we come to the end of the school year. Our beans and peas are growing and we released 3 butterflies that came to our classroom as larva. We've been eating lunch outside on some of the beautiful days we've been having.

We love the beach!
This picture might just look like two kids at the beach. Let me tell you what I see: two Seabury students, one from the pre-k class and one from our fourth grade. These kids were happily exploring the beach at low tide. This is the perfect example of education at Seabury; multi-age groupings when appropriate, big kids respecting little kids, hands on learning, and field study to reinforce classroom learning. These are some of the things we do really well!
I saved this picture from our recent visit to the beach because I think it says important things about how we teach at Seabury. |
Minus tide at the beach!
The kids have been working so hard on their hardcover books. |
What could be better than kids on the beach?

Gardening, Grandparents and Special Friends
Friday was such a busy day! We started the day planting peas, beans and sunflowers in the flower beds on our playground. The kids loved it and we can't wait to watch our garden grow. Many thanks to C.'s mom and dad for providing this experience for us.
In the afternoon we had a full house as we celebrated some of the special people in the lives of the children. We had moms and dads, grandparents and babysitters join us for some sharing in the classroom and cake on the playground.

Dumas Bay Sanctuary
The Ladybugs spent a beautiful afternoon exploring the Dumas Bay Sanctuary. We found hundreds of sand dollars, sea anemones and clams. It was the perfect way to start wrapping up our study of tide pools.

Tide pool survey
The Ladybugs are very busy learning about tide pool animals. We have learned some amazing things about these interesting animals. Today we created a survey form about favorite tide pool animals and then surveyed the rest of the classes. Octopus was the clear winner. This is just one of the ways we integrate math into our learning during the day.
