Signs of Spring

We took advantage of the warm weather this week to take a walk around the neighborhood.  We were on the lookout for signs of spring.  We found lots of flowers and trees blooming and the sun felt so good!  The kids documented what they saw by drawing pictures.

It was our turn to present at gathering on Friday.  Each of the children picked an Australian animal to talk about.  They were so brave getting up in front of the whole school.

Science Fair!

Chemical reaction

Melting ice

color mixing

compost tea

seeds

rain clouds

conducting electricity

sink and float

The Ladybugs had wonderful science projects.  They were varied and interesting and clearly something the children wanted to know more about.  The kids were so proud of their projects and did a great job explaining their procedures and conclusions to all of our visitors.

Science and Engineering in the Ladybugs

It's all about science and engineering in the Ladybugs.  We love the opportunities to explore and discover new things and see old things through a different lens or criteria.  This past week we have designed mazes and then executed those designs using straws, marbles and box lids.  We explored surface tension using milk, food coloring and soap.  We even learned some basic botany while checking out daffodils.  In addition, we are seeing some very complex castle designs using the unit blocks.  We can't wait to see what the kids bring in for science fair!

How many tries does it take to get a good group picture?  More than you would think!

"Click, Clack, Moo"

We had barely finished our time with "Pete the Cat" before we jumped into an author study of Doreen Cronin's books.   We love "Click, Clack, Moo" and used it as a starting point for learning to write notes and letters and draw cows.  We're looking forward to building mazes next week as we read another book in her Farmer Brown series.
